SUMMARY

Murray Edwards College, formerly known as New Hall, is a women-only college within the University of Cambridge.

Established in 1954 with just 16 students housed on Silver Street, it later moved to its current location on Huntingdon Road after receiving the Darwin family’s estate, ‘The Orchard’, in 1964.

In 2008, the college was renamed Murray Edwards College in honour of its founding President, Dame Rosemary Murray. Murray Edwards College now has over 500 students that study and live here.

The initial buildings are grade II listed, with Fountain Court being a notable feature. The courtyard includes an illuminated fountain and serves as a gathering place during summer. Like other Cambridge colleges, Murray Edwards College expanded gradually over time, resulting in a diverse range of blocks.

Murray Edwards College underwent a comprehensive full estate survey programme delivering digital topographical and measured building surveys of 18 main campus and off site buildings.

The survey was undertaken with a Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner. The output included precision Floor Plans of each building.
