SUMMARY
The digital 3D Revit Measured Building Survey of Station Road, Swanage.
In the Dorset resort of Swanage, the purpose-built Electric Cinema with seating for 500 opened in June 1916.
The building opened as Swanage Theatre, but soon changed its name to the Swanage Pavilion.
Alterations were then carried out, which presumably entailed something of a complete rebuild, in 1920, and it became the Grand Theatre. A Cinematograph Licence was granted in 1933.
In 1936 the Grand Theatre and the Swanage Cinema were sold to Portsmouth Town Cinemas. They, in turn, sold the cinemas to Tony Whitehouse in 1953.
After further alterations, the building re-opened as the Ritz Ballroom. The building was incorporated into the Gateway supermarket that had been built on the site of the Grand Theatre. Later on, that was operated by Budgens & Nixon’s Home Hardware.
The survey was undertaken with a Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner, Trimble Total Station & GPS. The output included a precision 3D Revit building & site model including the surrounding neighbouring. Deliverables also included 2D AutoCAD Floor Plans, Elevations, Sections.
