Surveybase are pleased to announce the appointment to deliver a Precision Digital Survey of the former Royal Mineral Water Hospital, Bath.

This historic building enjoys a prime location in the centre of the world heritage city. Designed by John Wood, the architect behind some of Baths Georgian masterpieces including the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Construction works were sponsored by philanthropists Ralph Allen and Beau Nash. By the mid-18th century, Bath was the trendsetting “Tinseltown” of Georgian society the playground of aristocrats and the wealthy who wanted to escape London and other polluted cities. Allen and Nash were at the centre of Baths prominence investing in its infrastructure and social scene. The Royal Mineral Water Hospital extended Baths renowned Spa facilities providing a space to “take the waters” and convalesces. Many of the early patients were resident for over a year.

Queen Victoria conferred the ‘Royal’ title in 1888. In 1936 the building was renamed the Royal Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. Known locally as “The Min” the Hospital was used to treat injured soldiers of the First and Second World Wars. The Hospital was managed by the NHS trust up until its closure in 2019. At over 277 years of continuous use, it was one of the world’s longest running hospitals.

In 2018, the Grade II building was purchased by Singaporean investors who obtained permission to turn the former hospital into a luxury 160-bedroom hotel. Working alongside prominent architects, Aaron Evans, our comprehensive brief is to undertake a Laser Scan survey of all site buildings and generate an intelligent BIM ready 3D Revit Model.

Site survey work will commence in November 2023, with delivery of the 3D Model scheduled for January 2024.
