The virus continues to change our world. As we head towards phase 2 of lock-down much consideration is being given to re starting the economy whilst managing the pandemic. Here we share an idea on how technology can help the AEC industry.
Virtual Site Meetings, The Future of AEC Design?
Online meetings are booming, virtual business is thriving, and it is hard to see this changing. Perhaps the legacy of the crisis will be the birth of the digital business age with obvious benefits to margin, safety and the environment.
These benefits are already available to the AEC industry, but there is another step to consider. Imagine a new event in the RIBA plan of works, the virtual site meeting. The technology already exists and better still, you are already paying for it.
Historically measured surveys take place further down the design programme. But what if we bring this forward; to day one? By deploying full colour Laser Scanners, we can facilitate an online project meeting and walk the site in high definition 3D imaging.
Surveybase will host the meeting through our Faro Scene software. Guests sign in from their desktop and are taken on a virtual journey around the building from scan point to scan point. We can stop off at any point, in any room, take measurements, sketch ideas or leave notes. The information will be saved securely in our online data vault and be ready on demand for future meetings or private access.
This change in approach helps manage the cost of survey by splitting the site work and draw up charges. Traditional 2D survey plans or a 3D BIM model can be processed later once the scope of the project is known. If required the Laser Scan survey can be repeated throughout the construction phase and on completion.
