As early investors in 3D surveying technology and pioneers in the development of Scan to Revit we hoped the floodgates would open as we neared the UK Governments 2016 BIM L2 mandate.
Now well into 2019 we are beginning to witness an increased and consistent flow of 3D survey instructions. In fact this year we have doubled our Scan to BIM income. The nature and source of discussions are also developing. Initially the majority of enquiries came from clients working in the public sector. Today we consult with Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Manufacturers across the construction industry and on a wide spectrum of projects, public and private.
The last few months have been particularly busy and it raises the question have we finally reached the BIM threshold; the point when 3D survey instructions outweigh the traditional 2D counterpart.
The simple answer is no, not quite yet. But we can confirm, with increasing confidence, that this day is coming. Which is a mega leap on from the uncertainty of recent years. The age of 3D survey is most definitely here and so as CAD replaced the drawing board, BIM will replace CAD.
