AT THE VERY HEART OF ALL WE DO…

Precision Digital Surveying a term so important that we use it in our logo. But why is it so important and what does it mean to our customers?

Founding Director, David Ascott explains:

“Precision Digital Surveying is our mantra, our promise to customers. It’s a statement of how we see the world of surveying, its principles, its reason for being.

The geomatics industry is developing at pace. More measured service providers using a wide array of measuring means. New survey technology is launched daily, most aimed at the burgeoning 3D reality capture market.

Today, surveyors have a myriad of methods available depending on the application. It’s possible to deliver measured surveys using a singular laser scan, or drone, or with a high-definition digital camera. I have even witnessed a surveyor using a mobile phone App. But without traditional survey control, there is no certainty.

You will be pleased to know that in this world of change, our service honours the steadfast principles of surveying, the right way to measure, a dedication to accuracy.

At Surveybase, we continue to use traditional total stations to establish a control network for all measurement procedures. We use this critical data to coordinate laser scanning and drone surveys. It generates the reference points we need to audit the combined survey data, providing the assurance of accuracy. This is the process of precision measurement, delivering on the fundamental promise of surveying, to be correct, to be exact.

The world of reality capture continues to expand. It’s based on a growing thirst for 3D models and 3D imaging. Its key benefits are efficient data capture, automated processing, and low survey fee. Visually the solution is stunning, especially when viewed using VR headsets. But there are questions over accuracy of the instruments, and the methodology. By way of 3D photogrammetry reality capture is unrivalled. I have seen the advantages it delivers to heritage records, condition surveys, and maintenance inspection. I am yet to be convinced of its appropriateness for as built surveying, design, and construction.

Going forward, customers will need to specify measured surveys carefully. Making certain that the survey methodology delivers on the measurement brief. Whilst a low-price quote is appealing, it might be a disaster to the development, increasing the risk of error, and the time and cost of correction.

Whilst we continue to monitor the survey market, we will never compromise our founding promise to customers, Precision Digital Surveying, the guarantee of absolute accuracy.”
