The Measured Building & MEP Survey of Royal Hospital For Neuro Disability, London.

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, (RHN) in Putney, Southwest London, is an independent medical charity that provides rehabilitation and long-term care to people with complex neurological disabilities caused by damage to the brain or other parts of the nervous system.

The RHN has a fascinating history reaching back to 1854 when as a prominent charity it received support from Florence Nightingale and Charles Dickens, among other ‘celebrities’ of the day. Originally based in Surrey the hospital moved to its current site, Melrose Hall, in 1863.

Surveybase were appointed by global design consultancy, Arcadis IBI, to deliver a detailed Measured Building Survey including concealed MEP mapping. Surveying in an operational hospital demands professional planning and consideration for patients and staff. This becomes further complicated by a requirement to remove ceiling tiles and access service ducts and voids. Our Project Managers worked alongside the Client and Hospital teams to develop on site methodology, based on an efficient, remove tiles, survey, replace tiles, clean up, procedure.

The survey took place over 3 consecutive nights, working from floor to floor in seamless transition. Processing the survey data needed a further 7 working days. The final as built record included 4 floor plans with MEP services layout, both exposed and concealed.

The results of the survey demonstrate our proven capability of undertaking a complex intrusive survey within a controlled hospital environment.
