Surveybase were delighted to be appointed to provide a Measured Building and Topographical Survey of this beautiful thatched Swiss chalet style cottage in rural Oxfordshire. Using one of our 3D laser scanners Survey Base captured the fabulous façade, elevations and floor plans of the building, ensuring to include the intricate detailing of the Grade II listed property.
The Swiss Cottage was originally built in 1850 as a replica of the honeymoon cottage Lord Barrington and his wife stayed in when visiting Switzerland – said to be haunted. The Swiss style originated in the late 18th/ early 19th Century with a more famous example being the Swiss Cottage at Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight, built for Queen Victoria’s Children by Prince Albert in 1854. The style was further popularized by the first waves of tourism of rich people from the North and West of Europe and became popular in other parts of Europe and North America.
Special mention should also go to one of our surveyors Raluca, for capturing the fantastic image of the cottage and as a result she won the photo of the month competition for September! Well done Raluca.
